About the Job 
The Head of Engineering role is responsible for managing a team of software engineers to develop applications and products that will deliver true business outcomes for Rest.  This role will be working in a highly agile environment with software environment that is based on a true cloud foundation.

This role will build an industry leading software engineering function by providing leadership and technical vision to the team, they will promote software development best practices (standards, process & tools) to allow Rest to develop and deploy solutions that are resilient, secure and scalable.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Building and delivering scalable, secure and resilient software that deliver to business requirements.
  • Responsible for setting an industry leading software engineering best practice processes (standards, CI/CD, branching, change/release management, tools, etc).
  • Manage compliance to software engineering processes across the organization (direct and indirect software engineers).
  • Hire, mentor and lead teams of direct and indirect software engineers.
  • Work with I&T stakeholders to ensure that realistic priorities and development timelines are agreed. product owners to ensure that product visions are turned into great solutions that will enable customer satisfaction.
  • Work with the quality assurance teams to develop automated test and agree processes between engineering and testing.
  • Solving complex engineering and scaling challenges in a dynamic environment.
  • Develop and maintain key stakeholder relationships that foster collaboration, trust and the achievement of planned outcomes.

About You:
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications

Required experience, understanding or credentials including:
  • 10+ years experience working as a software engineer, where possible with experience in financial services, preferably superannuation.
  • 3+ years experience working with DevOps tools and processes.
  • 2+ years leading a software development team.
  • Experience with Agile delivery and team management.
  • Experience creating solutions using AWS cloud native technologies, e.g. AWS Lambda, AWS StepFunctions, AWS App Mesh, AWS S3, AWS RDS, AWS Code*, etc.
  • Experience working with container technologies.
  • Ability to engender confidence at Senior Management levels.
  • Develops productive relationships with industry providers such as outsourced vendors.
  • Proven experience in applying analytical skill & conceptual thinking to operations & system planning across a range of technologies.
