Industry superannuation fund Rest has continued to strengthen its strategic technology capabilities with the appointment of an experienced General Manager, Technology.
Simon Smith leads Rest’s Technology team, and reports to Jeremy Hubbard, the Group Executive of Innovation and Transformation. The team encompasses technology architecture, engineering, information security and risk, service operations and IT vendor management.
“Technology is crucial in helping our members engage with their super on their own terms earlier and more often – and, therefore, achieve their personal best retirement outcome,” said Mr Hubbard.
“One of Rest’s strategic priorities is to further invest in technology and data to continue building outstanding customer service for our members.
“We will become a more agile organisation through the implementation of a new cloud foundation, which will use the latest AWS native tools and patterns to provide speed and flexibility as we look to deliver greater value to members. Through automation, we can increase our speed to market while maintaining robust security protocols and quality standards.
“Simon’s extensive experience in strategic technology and digital leadership roles will be invaluable as we continue to improve our existing digital customer experience.”
The Technology team will also be responsible for the continuous improvement of Rest’s cybersecurity measures to ensure these continue to meet best practice in the face of evolving threats.
Mr Smith has more than 20 years’ experience in business technology roles in a range of industries, including finance, telecommunications, healthcare and media. Previous roles include Chief Technology Officer of Vocus Group, Chief Technology Officer and Chief Information Officer of Vix Technology, Chief Information Officer of News Digital Media, and Head of Technology of AAPT.
He also has provided digital and technology strategy consultancy to organisations like vividwireless, the Sydney Airport Corporation and RedBalloon.
