Our take on climate change

Climate change will impact the global economy in the short, medium and long term. The ongoing transition to a lower-carbon economy drives us to continually manage risks to deliver strong investment performance over time.

Identifying and managing risks

Climate change risks are factored into our investment strategy and decision-making process, including asset allocation and strategy reviews, as well as in the selection and review of our investment managers.

Our investment managers are experts with the experience to make the right calls. Importantly, we prefer active engagement and believe divestment is not always the best approach to managing climate change risks.

We work with our investment managers, our investment adviser, and the Australian Council of Superannuation Investors (ACSI) to engage with the companies and entities we invest in, and to improve disclosure of climate change risks and opportunities.

But that’s not all. We’re also preparing to measure the carbon footprint of our equity portfolio. What’s more, we focus on continually refining and improving the way we measure, monitor and report on climate change risks across our investments, as our industry’s tools and capabilities improve.

Collaborative and investor-led initiatives

Did you know we are a member of ACSI, an investor-led association that focuses on advocacy, engagement and voting issues? Through its ongoing dialogue with company management on material environmental, social, governance (ESG) and climate change matters, ACSI aims to promote long-term shareholder value for the benefit of its members.

We are also a member of the Principles for Responsible Investment, a global body encouraging investors to apply responsible investment to enhance financial returns and better manage risks.
