Yes, Rest is an industry super fund. While Rest doesn’t pay for a symbol that reflects being an industry super fund, this is in our members’ best financial interest. As a profit-for-member fund, Rest believes this money is better directed towards our members.
There are a range of different fund types in Australia, such as retail funds, corporate funds and self-managed-super-funds (SMSFs). Industry super funds differ by:
Having profit-for-member structures
Offering competitive fees
Providing helpful member services
For example, Rest doesn’t pay commissions to financial advisers and offers competitive fees. This could mean more money for you when you retire. Rest can do this because we put those profits back to perks and services that benefit you (and not shareholders).
Remember, there is more to an industry super fund than paying for a symbol that identifies it as one.
If Rest started for workers in the retail industry, does that make it a retail fund?
Put simply, no - Rest is not a retail fund. Rest is an industry super fund that was first created in 1988 to service workers in the retail industry. This is where some confusion comes from.
Originally, some industry super funds were created by industry groups and trade unions. Only workers in these industries were allowed to join. This includes Rest Super and workers in the retail industry back in 1988.
Nowadays, anyone can join our growing 2 million member base (as of September 2024).
Why choose Rest super?
As an industry super fund, Rest offers a range of benefits to its members, including:
*Past performance is not an indicator of future performance.
**Awards and ratings are only one factor to consider when deciding how to invest your super. Further information regarding Rest’s awards can be found at rest.com.au/about-rest/awards.
