The Board of Rest, one of Australia’s largest profit-to-member superannuation funds, today announced the appointment of new Rest Director Catherine Bolger, an experienced and highly skilled advocate for working Australians.
Ms Bolger joins Rest from 7 August 2024 as a Shop Distributive and Allied Employees Association (SDA)-nominated Director and replaces Julia Fox, who retired from the Board in May 2024.
Ms Bolger has more than 20 years of experience as a Director and in unions where she has long advocated for the interests of working Australians. She brings financial, governance, member experience, and advocacy skills in superannuation, not-for-profit and government environments to the Rest Board.
James Merlino, Chair of the Rest Board said: “Catherine is a highly respected Director who is passionately committed to the profit-to-member superannuation sector and has a strong focus on improving the retirement outcomes for working people. We are fortunate to have Catherine join the Rest Board where her skills and experience will directly benefit Rest’s 2 million members.”
Ms Bolger is currently a Director of State Super and the Centre for Workers’ Capital. She is a Trustee of Unions NSW and a Director of Professionals Australia, a union representing the industrial and professional interests of over 20,000 professional employees across Australia.
A former president of the Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees (AIST), Ms Bolger played an important role in the creation of the Super Members Council of Australia, the collective body for profit-to-member super funds created though the merger of AIST and Industry Super Australia.
Ms Bolger is dedicated to integrating environmental, social and governance (ESG) risks into the effective management of superannuation. She also chaired the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) group responsible for developing guidance for investors and asset managers on supporting a just transition for workers.
“I am delighted to be joining the Rest Board. I have long been an advocate for better work and retirement outcomes for working people and I look forward to supporting Rest’s mission to make super simple for more than 2 million working Australians,” Ms Bolger said.
