Fairer Futures: Rest introduces new web features to better support members with disabilities

Multi-coloured piggy banks representing inclusivity in superannuation.

With 1 in 6 Australians recorded as having a disability*, doing our part to enable them as individuals to reach their full potential is something we’re passionate about.

On the 3rd of December we recognise the one billion people, including the 4.4million Australians, with a disability*.

The United Nations-sanctioned day, known as the International Day of People with Disabilities, is designed to raise awareness of disability-related issues and the abilities of people experiencing a disability.

We know that many Australians with a disability often feel excluded from vital services, with their needs unintentionally overlooked. 17% of people with a disability aged between 15-64 indicate experiencing social isolation.*

Path to progress

One step we feel we can take to help make our members' lives easier, is by investing in and providing access to adapted technology, which offers a range of features that can enable and support everyone’s ability to contribute to society and grow their super.

We believe that assistive technologies, especially when it comes to accessing the tools and support needed to manage and stay on top of their super, can help create a fairer future.

Driven by this purpose, we’ve introduced a plugin service that improves the usability of the Rest website for any visitors with a disability.

Now, when members access Rest's website and select the accessiBe.jpg icon, they can modify the website settings to suit their personal needs, helping them to use and navigate the website easily.

Meaning members can design their user experience to be their very own!

  • Some of the capability features on Rest’s website include**:
  • Seizure-safe profile - clear flashes & reduces colour.
  • ADHD-friendly profile - more focus & fewer distractions.
  • Vision-impaired profile - enhances website’s visuals.
  • Cognitive disability profile - assists with reading and focusing for disabilities such as Autism, Dyslexia, CVA and others.
  • Motor impaired profile – better navigation through keyboard shortcuts.

In addition to these profile settings, visitors have the flexibility to make individual adjustments, like increasing font sizes or changing colour contrasts, to better personalise their experience.

Enabling simple Super

This is a significant step towards creating a fairer super system for all Australians, we’ll continue to advocate for and help members grow their super, no matter their age, income or profile.

The new features enable us to provide a more inclusive member community and can help you save for your retirement in a way that works for you.
