Rest, one of Australia’s largest profit-to-member superannuation funds, has appointed a senior legal professional to provide expert guidance as the fund continues to simplify the experience of super for its 2 million members.

Duncan Whiteside will join as Rest’s General Counsel, a new role to lead the fund’s team of expert legal advisers. He will join Rest in December 2024 and report to Tyrone O’Neill, Chief Strategy and Corporate Affairs Officer.

Mr O'Neill says: “I’m pleased to welcome Duncan to Rest in the newly created position of General Counsel where he will play a key advisory role to the Board and senior management, while leading Rest’s team of legal experts as we continue our mission to make super simple for our 2 million members.

“Duncan has deep expertise in financial services and corporate law, particularly through his experience of the legal and regulatory environment for the life insurance sector.”

Mr Whiteside joins Rest from MetLife Australia, where he has worked since 2017, most recently as the insurer’s General Counsel and Head of Legal from March 2021. He will depart MetLife in November 2024. Prior to this, he was Senior Corporate Counsel at TAL Australia from 2013 to 2017.
