Rest appoints Rachel O’Connor to lead Fixed Income team

Rest, one of Australia’s largest profit-to-member superannuation funds, has promoted an experienced portfolio management professional to lead its Fixed Income team.

Rachel O'Connor has been promoted to Head of Fixed Income, Credit & Cash, following the retirement of Tracey Duff, the former leader of the Fixed Income team, at the end of February.

Ms O’Connor has around 30 years’ experience in fixed income and cash investments and joined Rest in August 2021. She was the fund’s Senior Portfolio Manager, Fixed Income from September 2023.

Kiran Singh, Rest’s Head of Listed Assets, says the appointment reflects Ms O’Connor’s deep expertise across the fixed income and cash asset classes, as well as her strong leadership qualities.

“Rachel has been instrumental in overseeing both our internally and externally managed assets for more than 4 years and made a significant contribution to the asset class’s great long-term track record,” says Mr Singh.

“I’m confident she will continue to build on the strong foundations established by Tracey over the past 20 years and lead it through the next phase of development in support of our 2 million members’ retirement outcomes.

“Tracey has made an immeasurable contribution to Rest. She has been a steady hand, a strategic thinker, a respected leader and most of all, a true culture champion.

“We are very sad to see her go, but also genuinely excited for what lies ahead for her.

“We are incredibly grateful for the legacy she has established. It’s a testament to the expertise within Rest that we can promote someone of Rachel’s calibre to continue this legacy into the future.”

Prior to joining Rest, Ms O’Connor worked in portfolio management roles at U Ethical Investors, Vanguard, UBS Asset Management, ING Investment Management and ANZ Investments.

Ms Duff joined Rest in August 2005 and lead the fund’s Fixed Income team and oversaw its internal Australian Fixed Income portfolio over much of that time.

Ms O’Connor commenced in the role on 2 March and is based in Melbourne.
