Rest Industry Super appoints GM Customer Service, National Manager Advice and GM Investments

Rest Industry Super today announced three appointments to drive superior customer service and capture investment opportunities for Rest’s two million members.

Rest has appointed Ms Beth Parkin to the newly created role of General Manager Customer Service and Ms Deborah Potts to the newly created role of National Manager Advice. Rest has also appointed Mr Ronan Walsh as General Manager Investments, effective 7 December 2015.

Rest Industry Super Chief Executive Officer Mr Damian Hill said, “Together these appointments are an important part of driving Rest’s future growth on behalf of our members and we are delighted to welcome Beth, Deborah and Ronan to our team.

“Rest is focused on improving the retirement outcomes of our members and Beth’s appointment to the newly created role of General Manager Customer Service is an important part of our continued work to develop and deliver great customer service for our members and employers,” said Mr Hill.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, Andrew Howard, Ms Parkin will manage the Operations Services, Insurance and Technical teams at Rest. She will also work closely with Rest’s service providers Australian Administration Services Pty Limited and AIA Australia Limited, to implement initiatives that drive Rest’s future customer experience.

Ms Parkin most recently held the position of Executive General Manager Customer Service at The Travel Corporation Australia and has held senior customer service roles in the telecommunications, digital and hospitality industries.

Reporting to the General Manager Strategic Relations, Ashley Boland, Ms Potts will lead the provision and development of Rest’s advice services which aims to achieve greater uptake of financial advice among members. She brings extensive experience within the financial services industry across many facets and previously held senior roles at ipac Financial Services and BT Financial Group.

“Deborah has been working as a consultant at Rest since October 2014 so she’s already familiar with our business. Now as a permanent employee, she’ll be responsible for establishing Rest’s advice team and implementing the advice strategy. This is a new function which will significantly benefit our members,” said Mr Hill.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, Mr Walsh will take over the duties of Jamie Hwang, who has been filling in as acting General Manager Investments. He will be responsible for overseeing the investment governance functions and managing relationships with Rest’s asset consultant, custodian and external investment managers.
Mr Hill said, “Ronan’s extensive experience and insights, in particular in asset management and his strong risk management skills will play an instrumental role in further building our investment strategies and approach which has seen us deliver competitive long-term investment performance to our members throughout changing market and economic conditions.”

Mr Walsh is the former Head of Fixed Income at VicSuper and brings over 18 years of financial services and asset management experience to the role. He has held various senior and management positions at Russell Investments, Citigroup and NAB.
