Rest appoints experienced governance expert


Rest governance expert Edmund Waters

Rest, one of Australia’s largest profit-to-member superannuation funds, has appointed a company secretary with extensive experience and governance expertise in the financial services industry.

Ed Waters joins Rest as Company Secretary from AustralianSuper and brings more than 15 years’ experience in governance roles in the superannuation and financial services industry.

Rest’s Chief Strategy and Corporate Affairs Officer, Tyrone O’Neill, says Mr Waters’ strong governance expertise will be a great asset to assist the fund achieve its goal to make the experience of super simpler for its more than 2 million members.

“Ed is highly focused with a strong commercial mindset and has a proven ability to build effective working relationships across different industries and jurisdictions,” says Mr O’Neill.

“He is an experienced secretarial and senior legal professional, with more than a decade of in-house experience. His familiarity with profit-to-member super funds and the regulatory environment we operate in are especially valuable. We are delighted to welcome Ed to Rest.”

Mr Waters joins Rest from AustralianSuper, where he has been the Deputy Company Secretary since 2021, including 2 stints as acting Company Secretary in 2022 and 2023.

Prior to this, he worked for Bupa in a variety of roles from 2008 to 2021, culminating in 4 years as Senior Legal Adviser – Head Office Advisory. In this role he provided governance and company secretarial support for Bupa’s 13 subsidiary boards in Australia and New Zealand.

Since 2020, he has also served as the volunteer Board Secretary to Ready Set, a charity helping vulnerable job seekers, primarily through clothing and career coaching services, return to the workforce.

Mr Waters joined Rest on 10 November 2025.
