Rest, one of Australia’s largest profit-to-member superannuation funds, is taking the next step in its mission to simplify the experience of super with a new vodcast aimed at demystifying super for its 2 million members.
Super Simple Chats is available now and aims to break down complexities and debunk myths surrounding super.
Research conducted for Rest1 shows that just 43% of Australians feel that it’s easy to get an understanding of how super works, with women and young Australians even more likely to feel that it’s difficult.
The research also shows an overwhelming majority of 83% of Australians think their super fund should work to make super easier to understand, and 73% say contributing to their super helps them feel more confident about their future.
More than half of Australians, 52%, are unsure they’ll have enough super to provide the retirement lifestyle they want.
Rest’s General Manager, Brand and Member Experience, Andrew Ford, says education is a powerful tool that can empower members to take control of their financial futures, and give them more confidence to reach their retirement goals.
“At Rest we want to simplify the experience of super for our 2 million members, because making super easy can lead to action, and taking action helps members prepare for the future,” says Mr Ford.
“We think every Australian can benefit from simple advice and education that builds their financial confidence – and it’s clear from our research that there is a public demand for super funds to provide this.
“Our Super Simple Chats vodcast aims to humanise super so it’s more relatable for our members. Our research shows that young working Australians are often disengaged with their super and see it as boring and complicated.
“We want to help our members proactively make informed financial decisions early in their working life as this will give them more opportunities to grow their super balance and look to their future with more confidence.”
The Super Simple Chats series will comprise 5 episodes and feature experts from Rest addressing topics including how much super you need to retire, how insurance works, and how to keep your super savings on track when you have a baby.
Episodes will be released weekly on Thursdays on both YouTube and common podcasting platforms. They are also available at http://go.rest.com.au/podcasts
1 Research conducted by Redbridge Group, on behalf of Rest, via an online survey of 1,505 Australians aged 18 and older between Wednesday, 10 July and Friday, 19 July 2024.
