About the Job 
The primary purpose is to enable effective analysis and monitoring of Rest’s investments, enhance decision-making and analysis and applying quality investment risk and performance analysis to Rest’s multi-manager investment portfolios, through the development of reports and custom analytics solutions. 

Consulting with key users and stakeholders such as Rest’s Investment Team, Product Team, IT Team and Investment Advisor to upgrade Rest’s analytics capability. Ultimately supporting the effective management of Rest’s investment platform to maintain a trusted source of investment data for analysis purposes.

The further development of this function now requires a senior specialist with a high degree of technical, data management and analysis skills.  The candidate will work closely alongside other specialists in providing end to end analytics support.

Key responsibilities include:                       
  • Engage with key stakeholders to identify needs and take the lead delivering analytically oriented investment oversight to promote quality investment related decision making at Rest.
  • Build and extend the team’s subject matter expertise in areas key to the analytics effort such as investment risk analysis, attribution, analytical automation and custom modelling capability.
  • Deliver reporting and information to key stakeholders such as the Investment Committee, the Investment Team and Rest’s client facing groups and external Research Houses.
  • Develop and maintain key analytical tools in the performance, attribution, risk, portfolio profiling analysis areas as required by relevant stakeholders including the Rest Investment Team, Investment Advisor, Investment Committee and Rest’s client facing groups.
  • Collaboratively working to manage Rest’s investment analytics service provider to achieve continuous improvement in Rest’s analytical systems implementation.
  • Support the team to manage Rest’s investment data in a way that strikes the right balance between meeting current operational needs and building towards an effective data management solution for expanding organisational needs.

About You:
You enjoy the trust and autonomy to deliver, whilst being part of wider supportive team.  You have a natural ability to analyse, clarify, action and communicate your findings, always aware of the impact and essential nature of your role. Your ability to manage your time and prioritise is standard, as is the ability to effectively communicate with, build and maintain effective relationships at all levels within the organisation and with external stakeholders.

Desired experience, understanding or credentials including:
  • Strong quantitative, analytical and problem-solving skills and experience developing best in class performance attribution and factor-based investment risk models.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in a relevant area of the financial services industry e.g. funds management, superannuation fund or other asset owner environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of investment markets, asset classes, securities and investment structures together with an in-depth knowledge of investment related data requirements across all asset classes.
  • Ability to interrogate investment data sources, including the use of SQL and / or equivalent.
  • Ability to develop custom analytics in an analytically oriented software environment such as R or Python (or a strong desire and capacity to develop these skills).
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with service providers and internal stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
  • Ability to anticipate needs, work under pressure, set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Experience leading and contributing to project teams involving multiple specialists and organisations.
  • Tertiary qualifications in relevant disciplines such as finance, maths, analytics, actuarial or data science
  • End to end experience developing holdings based analytical systems in a multi-manager environment.
